We are ambassadors of Christ united in the building of God's Kingdom,
committed to reaching the multitude by touching the individual.

The House of Prayer is a non-denominational church that was founded in December of 1986. Her mission from the outset was to be a church that actively reached out to others by meeting them right where they were at. Eighteen years later, that perspective remains and is captured by our mission statement.

Desiring to meet people where they are at has created a casual atmosphere at the church, both in attitude and dress. When people ask what to wear, our standard answer is, "You can't be over-dressed or underdressed as we have everything from suits and ties to T-shirts and jeans." There are no perceived socio-economic levels nor is there a generation gap as even the oldest have a lot of energy.

In regards to our worship and lifestyle, we have always tried to keep a balance between "Spirit and truth." The best way to describe us is by saying to the Charismatic/Pentecostal community we are fundamental and to the fundamental community we are Charismatic/Pentecostal. While we are dogmatic about the Word of God and the Person of Jesus Christ, we also know that Christians lives are to be exciting, fun, and cutting-edge.

The HOP, as its members affectionately call it, has always had the freedom and flexibility to try new things. The church was among the earliest in the area to have a praise band, home groups, and other ministries that were somewhat of a novelty 15 years ago, though since then, they have become standard fare for many churches. Still, the use of a Harley Davidson and paint ball guns in the sanctuary in order to communicate a message is still somewhat unique.

The mainstay of the church, however, is the unchanging Word of God. In a day when many are lowering the standards to accommodate the whims of a post-modern society, the House of Prayer calls for higher standards from her members. Whether young or old, the pursuit of excellence should be the normative for Christianity, as everything we do should be done "...as unto the Lord." We believe that Jesus should not only shine through us at church but in our workplace, school, and especially homes.
